UFC 209 features the rematch between Tyrone Woodley and Stephen Thompson for the Ultimate Fighting Championship 185 pound title. The event takes place in the fight capital Las Vegas, Nevada.
The last time these two met, the judges scored the fight a draw. Woodley retained the title, but the two will run it back one more time on Saturday March 4, 2017.
Here are the two new fights and updates from the past week for UFC 209.
Two new fights have been added to the UFC Fight Pass prelims that feature two UFC newcomers.
To kick the event off, Albert Morales will face off against UFC first-timer Andre Soukhamthath. Following that fight fans will see a women’s strawweight bout between TUF veteran Amanda Cooper and UFC rookie Cynthia Calvillo.
Soukhamthath and Calvillo will present question marks for daily fantasy MMA players but we’ll have you covered with some feedback about both in an upcoming article later this week.
Todd Duffee will no longer make his UFC return at UFC 209. The heavyweight fighter was forced out of his fight with Mark Godbeer for undisclosed reasons.
Godbeer was determined to stay on the card and as a result the fighter has accepted a fight with last-minute replacement Daniel Spitz.
Spitz has a 5-0 undefeated professional record and a 1-1 amateur record. Only one of his 7 professional/amateur wins is against a fighter that had a record over .500.
The light heavyweight tilt between UFC veteran Ed Herman and Igor Pokrajac has been scrapped. Apparently, Herman had to pull out of the fight due to an undisclosed injury and the promotion failed to secure a replacement for Pokrajac.
