To help you get your lineups set for UFC on FOX 23, here are some DraftKings quick picks that includes value, sleeper, and fade plays.
Aljamain Sterling ($8,000)
Aljamain Sterling is fighting Raphael Assuncao and enters the fight as the betting underdog (+120). Last fight was a loss to Bryan Caraway but won his first four UFC bouts.
I like Sterling as my value play because he’s a really talented up-and-coming fighter who has the size, age, and technical wrestling advantage in this fight. Raphael tends to take fights the full length and since takedowns and grappling advances can add up quickly, I think there’s a lot of value in Sterling.
He averages 3 takedowns, 2.5 grappling advances, 40.75 significant strikes, and 90 fantasy points when he wins. Assuncao hasn’t finished a fight in nearly four years and hasn’t won since late 2014. I think Aljamain is a smart play for $8K.
Henrique da Silva ($7,600)
Henrique da Silva, like Sterling, is one of those fighters you’re paying down for and I think that despite the odds not being in his favor, he’s still a great value play at $7.6K.
His opponent on UFC on FOX 23 will be Jordan Johnson. Johnson is undefeated and riding a 6 fight win streak that includes one KO/TKO, four submissions, and one five-round decision.
If UFC jitters are a thing, I expect Johnson to have them entering his first UFC fight.
Da Silva isn’t a slouch, having won 10 of his 11 fights by way of KO/TKO. He could get submitted in this one, like he did in his last fight so I wouldn’t use him a cash game. But for GPP, you’re paying .
Bobby Nash ($8,100)
Bobby Nash turned pro in 2014 and has a 8-1 fight record. The Michigan based fighter has won six straight fights with only one of those making it into the third round.
He’s a relatively unknown up-and-coming fighter with a division 1 college wrestling background. His last win was against a former UFC and WSOF fighter, Lewis Gonzalez.
Nash’s foe is Li Jingliang who fights out of China Top Team and holds a 3-2 fight record inside the Octagon. His
Donald Cerrone ($8,900)
Donald Cerrone has been on a hot streak having racked up 9 wins in his last 10 appearances inside the UFC. That includes five KO/TKO wins, three decision wins, and one submission win.
The three fight KO/TKO win streak he is currently riding could match the UFC record if he notches another one against Masvidal.
Jorge Masvidal is one tough son-of-a-gun. In his last 10 fights he has won six of those. When Masvidal does lose, however, it’s been by decision. Of those four losses in last ten bouts, all of them have been by way of decision.
Masvidal is also a really skilled boxer and is coming off a very entertaining finish of Jake Ellenberger. He’s the type of fighter who doesn’t back down from a fight.
This bout will be an exciting one but I don’t think Cerrone can dispatch Masvidal before the judges get to make their decision. With that said, Masvidal does bring a solid floor daily fantasy MMA. I’m projecting him to put up 30 points en route to a unanimous decision loss.
